DOMAIN & HOSTING RECOVERY

Domain and hosting recovery when DNS, registrar, or host access is broken

Sites go dark when nameservers are wrong, the domain points elsewhere, the host suspends the account, or nobody knows who owns the panel. Rescue 404 maps ownership, restores resolution paths, and scopes a lasting fix.

Starts with Rescue Diagnostic: $175 (one-time) — Credited toward fix if you proceed. Not free. Not refundable.

Inode limits on cheap shared hosting can silently break your site when disk usage looks fine. I check hosting health — not just the website code.

THIS IS YOU IF

DNS, registrar, and hosting failures

Resolution problems often look like “the website is down” when the break is elsewhere.

  • Domain does not resolve

NXDOMAIN, ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED, or “server IP address could not be found.”

  • Domain opens the wrong website

Parking page, old host, or someone else’s content after a migrate or registrar change.

  • Hosting account suspended

Billing, abuse, or resource flags took the account offline.

  • Nameservers or DNS records are wrong

Propagation limbo, stale A records, or CDN still pointing at a dead origin.

  • You renew the domain but still cannot reach the site

Registrar is fine; hosting DNS or SSL is not.

  • Nobody has the hosting login

Former developer, lost invoices, or reseller panels with no clear owner.

WHAT WE DO

Recover the stack that actually owns the site

Domain, DNS, host, and CDN are separate systems — we map them before changing records.

  • Ownership map

Registrar, DNS host, web host, CDN, and email — separate systems that often look like “one website.”

  • Restore resolution

Correct nameservers, A/AAAA/CNAME records, and SSL so browsers reach the right origin again.

  • Hosting recovery path

Suspended accounts, resource locks, and migrate options when the current host cannot support the site.

  • Clear next step

Stabilize where you are, or migrate into Care-eligible managed hosting when shared/cheap hosting is the constraint.

PROCESS

Trace, diagnose, recover, verify

Do not cancel the old host until the new path resolves and backups are safe.

1

Trace the stack

Who owns the domain, who answers DNS, who hosts files, and whether Cloudflare or another CDN sits in front.

2

Paid diagnostic

$175 investigation with written findings — wrong DNS vs suspended host vs missing access — plus a fixed repair or migrate quote.

3

Recover & cut over

Fix records, restore hosting access, or migrate when the current environment cannot support a lasting recovery.

4

Verify & prevent

Confirm public resolution, SSL, and admin. Optional Care keeps hosting health and DNS expiry from becoming the next outage.

AFTER YOU ARE STABLE

Prevention comes after recovery

After DNS and hosting are stable, Care (with managed hosting included for eligible WordPress) keeps the stack from drifting back into ticket-queue downtime. If you are still on shared hosting, read the shared-hosting explainer first.

RECOVERY FAQ

Domain, hosting, and email boundaries

Ownership rules, migrate vs recover, and diagnostic pricing.

Is this the same as hosting migration into Care? +
No. This page is for recovery when DNS, registrar, or hosting access is broken. Hosting migration into Care is the planned move off shared/cheap hosting after eligibility is clear. Many clients need recovery first, then migrate.
Can you recover a domain I do not own? +
No. We help legitimate owners (or authorized agents) with registrar identity, WHOIS/contact recovery, and host account restoration. We do not hijack domains.
Do you migrate email? +
No. We do not host or migrate mailboxes. Keep Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or your current mail provider; we leave MX alone unless you explicitly need DNS records corrected around an existing mail setup.
What does the diagnostic cost? +
The Rescue Diagnostic is $175 paid upfront and credited toward the repair or recovery if you proceed. Full rules: Refunds & Payment.
What if the host will not release the account? +
We document ownership proof, work their official recovery channels, and plan a migrate when the account is unrecoverable or the environment cannot support the site.
Should I cancel the old host immediately? +
No. Do not cancel until the site resolves correctly on the new path and you have verified backups. Premature cancellation can destroy the only remaining copy.
What if a former developer still controls registrar or hosting? +
Start with the registrar and hosting company — account ownership changes go through their identity processes, not through Rescue 404 forcing access. If the site is up and you already have WordPress admin, we can migrate into Care-eligible hosting once you confirm in writing that your business owns the content. We will not copy a public site onto our servers when you control nothing and cannot prove ownership.
